My mentor, the late John Lewis, challenged us to make “good trouble” — necessary trouble — in the pursuit of justice. He reminded us that silence is complicity and that moral clarity requires action.
But what stayed with me most was not just the protest. It was the discipline. The steadiness. The lifelong commitment to dignity, even in the face of hostility.
Good Trouble was never reckless.
It was principled.
It was strategic.
It was rooted in love for humanity.
That ethos lives at the center of this podcast.
We are not here to create noise.
We are here to create necessary disruption grounded in truth and shared responsibility.
The Republic Mindset
Years before I understood how I would apply it, another influence was shaping me.
The late Barbara Weiss, founder of Atlanta’s iconic boutique Snooty Hooty, introduced a 20-something Luckie to the origin story of The Republic of Tea: How an Idea Becomes a Business. That book — and Barbara’s brilliance — changed how I would forever think about business, innovation, and collaboration.
The founders of The Republic of Tea didn’t just sell a product.
They built a philosophy.
They created ritual.
They invited people into something larger than commerce.
Tea was never just tea.
It was a cultural shift.
That lesson stayed with me.
When this podcast began to evolve, I knew it could not be another panel discussion or debate platform. It had to be intentional. Ritualized. Grounded. A space where difficult dialogue could unfold without spectacle.
Tea slows us down.
